Linking FMEA and FMEDA

The functions and malfunctions from the FMEA analysis can be used for the FMEDA document.

Prerequisites: an FMEA was created, an FMEDA document is opened and the PSS view is active.

 

  1. Open the FMEA in the PSS view.

  2. Drag the malfunction desired as a hardware/system failure.

  3. Drop it onto the relevant column in the FMEDA editor. - Outcome: the "Add or replace" alert will open.


Adding an Effect

Click Add in the "Add or replace" alert/dialog. - Outcome: the “Select Hardware and System functions” dialog will open.

Use the Browse… buttons provided to make your selections:

  • Hardware function corresponding to the chosen hardware failure

  • Chosen hardware failure

  • Selection of system function

  • System failure.

Click on Finish. - Outcome: a hardware function/failure and system function/failure will be added and the safety goal assignment will be adopted and displayed in the column SE SG.


Replacing an Effect

Click Replace in the "Add or replace" alert/dialog. - Outcome: the relevant effect will be replaced with the one that you dragged and dropped.

 

The functionalities to add or replace hardware function/failure and system function/failure are
identical.
