Creating a New BOM Component

1. In either Repository, BOM Modules or PSS view right-click on a module and choose New → New Component.

   Outcome: the dialog "New component" will open.

2. Enter a Name for your component. As the GUI suggests, this field is required, whereas all other entries are optional.

3. Enter a Description that helps somebody else understand the content.

4. Enter a Product Code.

5. Select a Module that you want to contain the new component. This selection defaults to the module you right-clicked.

6. a) Choose a failure rate Catalog and Component type in case the new component was defined in a catalog.
   b) If you want to set the FIT value manually for the new component, leave these two sections empty.

7. If there are several components of the same type, assign a Factor (i.e. the quantity of the component;
   this parameter directly impacts on the value "Total FIT").

8. The FIT value of a component is defined in the failure rate catalogs and will be set automatically.

9. Click on Failure mode types... to choose a failure mode type from the failure mode catalogs.

10. Click OK and Next to confirm and create a further component.

Outcome: a component was created and added to the selected module.
