First Run

Prerequisite: Running the software presumes an active SOX license.

SOX License Management | Activating a License Key.

Setting up Your Workspace and Repository

Having launched the SOX client application, you will be asked to determine your workspace and choice of working method for repositories (local vs. remote). For this example, a local respository will be used.

First Login (Default Values)

  1. Enter the User ID: Administrator.

  2. Enter the Password: 0000

  3. Optionally, check the box provided if you want the system to remember your password.

  4. Click OK.

After your first login, you will see the Welcome screen.

To learn more about SOX user administration, kindly refer to Account Settings.

To switch between workspaces or to create a new workspace, restart SOX. The Workspace Launcher dialog will open:

As a default, there is a folder called “workspace” in the folder into which you installed SOX. You can also select or create another folder by clicking on Browse…

A new workspace needs to be in an empty folder. Do not change its content in the Windows file explorer, only in SOX.

If you want to make this folder your default, click the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog.
If you choose this option, you can still select another workspace later: on the SOX menu bar, go to
File > Switch Workspace. Your most recently used workspaces will also be visible there.

Approve the selected folder by clicking OK.

The Example Projects

To help familiarize you with the product semantics and method, SOX comes with example projects. In the following example, the “Automatic Rear Spoiler” demo project will be shown.

  1. On the menu bar, click on Help, then Example Projects.

  2. Select “Automatic Rear Spoiler”. Click on Next.

  3. The following screen will ask you for your target folder into which to import the project. Click Browse and navigate to a directory of your choice. Our example scenario uses the “Projects” folder. Confirm your selection by clicking OK.

  4. SOX will display the Import Summary. As noted on the screen, after clicking Next (instead of Finish) you may review, and - where appropriate -, edit the catalog and employee settings. Our example assumes that the user browses the subsequent screens without actually making any changes.

  5. After clicking Next, SOX will show the Catalog assignment.

  6. After clicking Finish, you may select which diagrams and/or documents, if any, SOX will open and display. In this example all diagrams and documents will be opened.

  7. After making suitable choices on the previous dialog, SOX will open the example project, displaying the topmost diagram or document.

  8. To review the SysML diagrams, expand the SysML 1.4 model found in the Model Explorer. Double-click any diagram to open and display it:

You can filter the Model Explorer view to show all available diagrams only using the Show diagrams toggle button in the toolbar of the Model Explorer view.
